Hello Everyone,
We'll try this out and see if anyone is reading these pages. I will be speaking on January 18th at church. I am not a polished speaker but I am excited to share some thoughts. I will be discussing Culture and the Church. We will look back at some historic influences on the Church and how some of our current customs came about, and just how important OR UNimportant they may be. This may cause some to be angry.....we tend to hold very tightly to our traditions whether they be church traditions or family traditions. We will look at modern culture and how your Mom and Dad's church may look very different from many churches today. I will not be condemning cultures influence on church issues. I feel, much like the apostle Paul did (I Corinthians 9:19-23), that we must consider these things when trying to minister to those around us. How can someone relate to what you are even trying to share with them if you are speaking a different language, the have unmet pressing needs, or we are unable to put things in a cultural perspective.
We will also be looking at what is now known as the Post-modern culture and how the church is making it's mark and affecting people's lives in these times, what adaptations we must make and what Biblical truths we must cling tightly to. The coming years will be exciting at Rushchurch and I am pleased and humbled to be a part of that!
Jim
