Christians With Our Blinkers On!

I had this weird dream or stage IV REM thought last night. I woke with the thought of Christians as cars traveling down a road on this journey. I could go on and talk about the obvious narrow path and wide path idea, but not on this occasion. This time I had the thought of (or vision of...it's hard to tell in a dream-like, half-awake state) a car with the turn signal on. You know the one, the one that you slow down because you know they're turning off soon, then they don't and they travel for miles that way! Maybe we as Christians are that car that persistently blinks as it rambles down that highway! Maybe we live our lives constantly appearing that we are disembarking somewhere, sometime soon. Maybe the perception from others around us on life's highway (not to steal a line from Tom Cochrane or Rascall Flatts) is that we are alouf and could care less about what's in the here and now!
I picked up Adventures in Missing the Point this evening as I had some time to read. I started with Tony Campolo's chapter on the Kingdom of God and couldnt believe the irony. He states that we are to be striving to create the Kingdom of God here on earth as best we can; fighting the good fight, developing ourselves and others, much like the French resistance during Nazi occupancy of France. We are fighting the battle as best we can until the larger army arrives. Maybe it's on the heels of my talk about perceptions of Christians, but I think showing concern for our current perdicament (on many levels) goes a long way to reaching our surrounding culture. Being a courteous driver and looking alert doesn't hurt either!
